Many charitable organizations rely on contributions of time and goods to serve the needy, homeless, disabled and suffering people. The organizations here responded to The Eagle's annual request for information about year-round volunteer and supply needs as well as holiday needs. Many agencies need specific types of items; it's best to call and check with them before donating. Some may prefer donations of money instead ofgoods. The programs are in Wichita unless otherwise noted. Basic needs Caring Hearts, 5911 N. Maize Road, 316-722-2680, provides assistance with bills, food and clothing to families in the Maize school district. Needs 30 frozen turkeys, kids' socks and underwear, hygiene items, 100 plain cardboard boxes, monetary donations.
Australia's warships should built on home soil even if it costs more, a Senate committee has recommended. In its report on Australia's naval shipbuilding sector, the Senate foreign affairs defence and trade committee acknowledged that building locally may come at a cost premium. .
Valena Henry, 77, arrived Wednesday to a sight she swears she foresaw even before Katrina flattened her Pass Christian home. "I had a vision I was going to get a new home and I got it," Henry said. "It ain't brick, but I got a new home." She returned to her Grayson Street neighborhood where everybody knows her as grandma. "Now if grandma tells you something, do like grandma tells you to do," Henry warned. "Because grandma will whip you." And this grandma says prayer, patience, and the good works of others have made her return possible. "I'm so thankful for the people who just reached out and helped me." Those people are led by the non-profit Enterprise Corporation of the Delta, a regional organization that provides funds for community development to the most needy.

Jeffman Enterprises Ltd. operating as Sundance Oilfield Rentals Inc. ("Sundance") together with Winalta Inc. (TSX VENTURE:WTA.A) ("Winalta") announce that they have entered into an Amending Agreement in which the parties agree to establish the effective date of the Sundance acquisition as December 15, 2006 with the closing to occur no later than January 31, 2007. In consideration, Winalta has agreed to amend the price of the $700,000 Winalta common shares, subject to exchange approval, to $2.15 per share. Winalta Inc. and through its subsidiaries, is a land developer in Western Canada as well as a producer of manufactured CSA certified homes and site-built homes. In addition through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Vanguard Inc. manufactures industrial trailers and camps at North Battleford, Saskatchewan.
