The CCAD Board of Directors approved an agreement with the Kingdom City Board of Trustees Monday night to lease land for a new ambulance station to serve the northern part of the county. For $1,000-a-year, the ambulance district will lease a small corner of land just behind the Kingdom City City Hall.“They have a lot of calls here on Interstate 70, and they needed to be up here," said Fred Atkinson, KCBT president. “They don't have too much funds to work with right now, and we wanted to get a presence out here as quickly as possible, so it seemed like this was the best way.“We were really happy to work something out with them. I think it'll be good for everybody."CCAD Director Charlie Anderson said initial plans for the station are for a modular building, “no frills, something about 1,000 square feet," and a permanent garage to house one of the district's five ambulances.“We're going to start with three (crews) and then go from there," Anderson said.

WINCHESTER — Like many organizations, the Winchester-Frederick Community Services Council used the majority of its monthly meeting on Thursday to celebrate the holidays. But at the same time, the group was gearing up for its annual awards luncheon. Last year, the council had to move the awards event from January to March due to inclement weather, said Chairman Mia Franklin. The event will be held from noon until 2 p.m. on Jan. 18 in the Clement Board Room at Shenandoah University. The awards recognize an individual, a human services agency, and a business or civic group for their contributions to the community. The Winchester-Frederick County Chapter of the American Red Cross was last year’s outstanding human service agency, while Clear Channel Communications of Winchester was named the outstanding business group.
